About The Event

Hosted by the National Black Prosecutors Association; Association for Women Attorneys, Memphis Chapter; Ben F. Jones Chapter, National Bar Association; and the National Civil Rights Museum.

The purpose of the program is to educate the public on the criminal justice system in Shelby County, specifically informing them about how cases move through the system. Some discussion topics may include how our grand jury works (as opposed to other jurisdictions), what information is needed in order to indict a person for a criminal offense, sentencing guidelines and discrepancies in sentencing (i.e., why it seems like some people get more time than others for certain offenses), and tackling concerns raised by the public regarding prosecution of police.
